Mayor of Kerkyra Kostas Nikolouzos addressed the history of friendly relations between Russia and Greece: "Our peoples are connected by many historical events, the Orthodox faith and the joint struggle against the invaders. For example, Ioan Kapodistrias and Feodor Ushakov strengthened friendship between Russia and Kerkyra. As evidence of these ties, we are carrying out Russian weeks, which are held every year. But today's event is special, this year 2016 was called the cross - year of the Greek-Russian culture, in which the events that strengthen the relationship between us took place and will continue. This festival is also special because it is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the miracle of the liberation of the island of Corfu from the Turkish invasion through the prayers of St. Spyridon.

And I would like to make every effort to strengthen our ties at all levels: tourism, culture, politics. Kerkyra is a place that welcomes guests from Russia every year with the most sincere feelings. So always welcome to the island of Corfu!»

The words of the Chairman of the IPPO, Chairman of the organizing Committee of the festival Sergey Stepashin reflected the essence of the festival and the relations between our countries: "today, more than ever, the unity of Christian peoples becomes the guarantor not only of peace and security in Russia and Greece, but also around the world, in Europe, Asia and the middle East. Both Greece and other European countries have felt this for themselves. The children who are now sitting at this concert, the future of Greece, lovely and happy faces, they are not afraid of adults and explosions, they do not know what it is, and 1000 km from here the same children die. And let today's festival be a small contribution, which should be one of the most important components of the Foundation of peace in the world, and in Russia, and in Greece and the middle East.

And as an Orthodox person, I want to thank Greece for the culture, the language and the religion that you gave us. And the fact that we are always together is one of the most important factors of our friendship.

Therefore, I want to reformulate the name of the festival a little: "Russia and Greece together for centuries!»
